The former footballers serve as 1GOAL ambassadors and promote the programme, which emphasizes education to African youth by capitalizing on their natural fascination with football.
Harnessing the momentum of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the 1GOAL campaign was created to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of:
- Ensuring all boys and girls complete primary schooling by 2015
- Ensuring that girls have the opportunity for education at all levels by 2015
The organization is supported by political, celebrity, and athlete representatives who have used their influence to gain support for the universally lauded cause of increasing education opportunities for African youth.
As Mr. Okocha describes, “Football has got a limit, it’s a short career, but education is forever. So education will even carry you beyond football. I’m so glad to be a part of this 1GOAL project because a lot of kids in Africa have been deprived of the opportunity to go to school.”
1GOAL has been making great strides in helping children understand the full potential that an education can bring.
